Welcome to HKBU! You have come a long way struggling with the impact of the COVID-19, especially during your DSE exams, but you made it. I am delighted that you have become a member of the HKBU community, and I wish you a great start as you begin a new chapter of your academic journey with us.
Entering university is one of life’s major milestones. Your time as a university student will shape your future and prepare you for it. Here at HKBU, you will be able to find opportunities to explore and make discoveries. You will also uncover ways to generate exciting ideas and knowledge that will open new doors and possibilities. It is also a journey of self-discovery and development. While you will know more about your interests, values and aspirations, the adventure you are about to undertake here will change your perspective and stimulate your growth as a person as well as a citizen.
At the heart of HKBU is our liberal arts tradition that focuses on both breadth and depth. We focus on transdisciplinary studies as well as students’ all-round development. Our scholars here are leaders in their respective academic fields, so please seize the chance to learn from them, be challenged by them, and ask them questions. Outside of the classroom and laboratory, we also offer a rich array of learning activities and experiences that can empower your body and soul. I would encourage you to join the different student organisations, clubs, athletic teams, and community service programmes that we offer. There are new things to try and opportunities to be grabbed around every corner, so please don’t hesitate to look and let curiosity guide you!
The world in the 21st century is getting more complex, and problems can only be solved by those with a diverse skill set and the comprehensive ability to think analytically. It is important that you broaden your scope of knowledge, horizons and capacity, so that you may rise to the challenges that lie in front of you. The years at HKBU will be the ideal period to achieve that, and we are ready to provide you with the necessary assistance and resources.
As you settle in, you will find that HKBU is a lively, friendly and inspiring community that is enlivened by a vibrant atmosphere. You are now part of the HKBU family, which means you are never alone. Our faculty and professional teams are here to support you and they will act as your allies throughout the whole university journey, for we are happy to have you on board and hope that you will see HKBU as a home away from home.
